NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Course is 8-9hrs long, this is an advanced certificate offered by the NRA. CRSO course is conducted in a classroom and on a live range, The CRSO must have not only extensive knowledge of the RSO program, but be familiar with range design and use. The CRSO is responsible for developing the Standard Operating Procedures for a working range.

After passing the course a log-in is created, instructor candidates will have to pay the two year NRA Instructor Certification fee. The fee is $35 for NRA members or $60 for non-NRA members. This fee is paid to the NRA every two years in order to maintain the NRA Instructor Certification. Currently there is no renewal training required by the NRA. Once the fees are paid the certification becomes official and the completion certificate, NRA Instructor ID card, and all other NRA Instructor benefits become available
