Intermediate Range Rifle
Course Description
The goal of this course is to provide rifle shooters with the knowledge and skill development necessary to effectively engage targets at distances of up to 500 yards and beyond using a variety of sighting systems and shooting positions.
Many rifle shooters are limited to indoor ranges or shorter-distance outdoor ranges, which can restrict their ability to explore the capabilities of their rifles, optics, and other equipment. This course provides an opportunity to develop and apply practical marksmanship skills at extended distances in a structured range environment.
This is not a beginner or introductory course. Participants should already have a basic familiarity with their rifle, including its nomenclature, safe operation, and basic handling, as well as familiarity with their chosen sighting system.
The course combines classroom instruction with live-fire range training and is approximately 7–8 hours in length.

- Semiautomatic, bolt action, or lever action rifle in a rifle caliber (for example, .223/5.56 mm, .308/7.62X51 mm, .30-06, .30-30, 7.62X39 mm, etc,). Pistol caliber carbines are not appropriate for this course.
- Sighting system adjustable for elevation and windage
- Stabilizing equipment such as a two point sling, sandbag, bipod, backpack, etc.
- Shooting mat recommended
- Eye and ear protection
- 100 to 150 rounds of ammunition
- Notetaking materials
